Eight of the 12 teams in the WNBA qualify for the postseason each year. Heading into Sunday's regular-season finale, the final two spots were up for grabs, with the Liberty and Mercury claiming them as the No. 7 and No. 8 seed, respectively.
The first round of the playoffs will feature four series.
No. 1 seed Las Vegas faces No. 8 seed Phoenix; No. 2 seed Chicago faces No. 7 seed New York; No. 3 seed Connecticut takes on No. 6 seed Dallas and No. 4 seed Seattle faces No. 5 seed Washington.
The first round is a best of three format, with the higher seed hosting the first two games of the series and the lower seed hosting Game 3 if necessary.
The semifinals, which are set to begin on Aug. 28, feature a best of five format, as do the WNBA Finals, which will begin on Sep. 11.
The playoffs begin on Aug. 17 with Chicago hosting the Liberty at 8:00 p.m. ET on ESPN2, followed by the Aces hosting the Mercury at 10:00 p.m. ET on ESPN.
The other series begin on Aug. 18, with the Sun hosting the Wings at 8:00 p.m. ET on ESPNU and the Storm hosting the Mystics on ESPN2 at 10:00 p.m. ET.
